Overview

The Graduate Program in Social Science aims to examine the actions and views of State and Society concerning social issues, particularly with regard to the realms and processes of expression of inequality. This Graduate Program addresses these matters, along with their methodological and empirical developments, within a theoretical framework, from the perspective of research and intervention of actors and institutions.

Areas of Study

Identity and Sociability
Analyzes culture in its lived dimension, focusing on the identity logics that take place in the processes of social belonging, disaffiliation and exclusion of groups and individuals. Studies social practices relating to everyday life, their interaction and sociability dynamics, as well as the processes and theoretical and political implications relating to the construction of identities, the right to differences, religions and multiculturalism.

Social actors, Public Policies and Citizenship
Studies the relationships between State and Society regarding the organizational process of social actors, development of public agendas, and conditions and constraints for universalization of citizenship. Examines social policies on human rights, the relationships between society and the environment, and the generational and identity dynamics, analyzing representations, proposals and actions related to inequality in terms of individual and collective rights, access to services and quality of life.

Society, Economy and Emancipation
Addresses social practices and policies from the perspective of solidarity, analyzing its alternative and emancipatory sense. Focuses on associative and cooperative experiences, intercooperation systems, forms of collective entrepreneurship, initiatives based on reciprocity, as well as movements, Third Sector organizations and related policies.

Investigates existing social configurations in the context of work relations, democratic experiences, communities and territories, considering their transformational potential based on their respective epistemology and knowledge. Highlights knowledge-generating innovations and sustainable solutions via citizen engagement and cooperation between actors.

Master's Degree

The master's degree consists of 30 credits, including disciplines related to the Theoretical Branch, on fundamentals of Social Science (9 to 12), disciplines related to the Thematic Branch, about the Program Emphasis and Area of Study selected (9 to 12 credits), and disciplines related to the Methodological Branch, about the research process and development of Dissertation (9 credits).
